Recently, fishing friend Lao Zhao came back from a trip to Nanjing and introduced us to a fishing gear store that sells fishing rod insulation sleeves. After putting a sleeve over one meter long on a carbon rod, it can prevent electric shock during fishing.

I haven't seen any physical objects or understood the fishing environment there, so I dare not deny this tool for preventing electric shock. However, based on common knowledge of electricity usage, we raise doubts: the insulation sleeves on insulated rubber shoes and electrical tools we use on weekdays usually only withstand 500 volts, which can indeed prevent electric shock from low-voltage power sources such as 380 volts and 220 volts. If Nanjing Diaoyou is to prevent low-voltage electric shock, the insulation sleeve can play a certain role. But in many counties and cities in Zhejiang Province, the power lines near reservoirs are mostly 10kV high-voltage lines that are transmitted from small hydropower stations to substations. Insulation with a voltage of 10kV or 10000 volts and a withstand voltage of 500V must not be used. Misuse can result in death.

Ten years ago, several fishing enthusiasts in our city drove to a mountainous reservoir in Xianju County to fish. One of them moved his fishing position with a carbon rod and died immediately after encountering a high-voltage line near the reservoir. The author has reported on this in Zhejiang Electric Power Daily and local newspapers, but due to the limited educational coverage, it has not attracted the attention of the majority of fishing friends.

Last November, another fisherman from our city went fishing in another mountainous reservoir in Xianju County. A fishing friend was riding a motorcycle and pulling a carbon rod on his shoulder. When transferring the fishing field, the tip of the rod hit a high-voltage wire and fainted on the road. After a passing fishing friend saw it, due to his eagerness to save lives and lack of rescue knowledge, he did not use a dry bamboo and wood rod to pry apart the tip of the fishing rod on the high-voltage line. Instead, he directly pulled the fishing rod with his hand. As soon as the rod was off the ground, he fell to the ground with the rod, and the tip of the rod also detached from the power line.

With the help of fellow anglers, the angler who had been electrocuted slowly woke up, while the rescuer, who had been injured even more severely, stopped beating his heart. When sent to the hospital, the doctor was also unable to recover.

The fishing friend who was first electrocuted, although his hands and feet were burned, did not die. Why did the fishing friend who saved people die?

According to experts' analysis, when a fishing friend on a bicycle is electrocuted, the rubber tire insulation of the motorcycle provides a certain protective effect. When falling to the ground, the fishing rod may land first, and a large amount of current passes through the fishing rod, reducing human injuries; When a rescue angler pulls out the fishing rod, the rod may first be off the ground, and the tip of the rod may be discharged. The electric current on the rod instantly passes through his body and the ground, resulting in even more severe injuries.

In addition, electric shock death is also related to whether the current passes through the heart, causing cardiac arrest. When the former falls to the ground, there may be contact between hands and legs, and the current does not pass through the heart; The latter stood pulling the fishing rod, and the current passed through the heart and body, causing the heart to stop. At that time, without effective rescue, the patient could not recover, and after being sent to the hospital, the doctor was also unable to recover.

When fishing in reservoirs or fish ponds with high-voltage power lines around, fishing friends must stay away from the high-voltage lines, and when transferring fishing grounds, they must first collect their fishing rods.
